Prescriptions
Ordering repeat prescriptions
The easiest ways to order repeat prescriptions are:
- using your NHS account (through the NHS website or in the NHS App)
- using the GP online system: Patient Access
These accounts show you all your repeat medicine and dosage and you can choose the ones you need.
You can also:
- bring the paper form to the surgery, Monday to Friday from 8am - 6.30pm
- post it to us (please enclose a SAE if you want us to post it back to you).
- Complete the online form link below:

We do not take repeat prescription requests over the phone.
Choosing a pharmacy
Nominating a pharmacy - NHS App help and support - NHS
When you request a prescription online, you can have your prescription sent electronically to a pharmacy of your choice. This is called choosing a pharmacy (it's also known as nominating a pharmacy).
Once you choose a pharmacy:
- you'll no longer need to collect paper prescriptions from your GP surgery
- your chosen pharmacy will receive your prescriptions until you change or remove it
You can choose a local pharmacy by using the NHS App or logging in to the NHS website using a web browser. You collect your prescriptions in person from a local pharmacy. They may also deliver to your home.
If you prefer to use an online-only pharmacy, which sends your prescriptions to you in the post, you must register with them through their website or contact them directly.
Medication reviews
If you have a repeat prescription, we may ask you to come in for a regular review with either the GP or someone from the Pharmacy Team. We will be in touch when you need to come in for a review.

What to do with old medicines
You can return unwanted or expired NHS prescription medicines, including those from a hospital or care home, to any local community pharmacy for safe, free disposal. Do not dispose of medicines in your bin or flush them down the toilet, as this can pollute the water system. Pharmacies do not reuse or recycle returned medicines; they are incinerated.
About pharmacists
As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:
- coughs
- colds
- sore throats
- tummy trouble
- aches and pains
They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.
Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment.
Most pharmacies have a private consultation room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff without being overheard.
